Carbon Reduction Plan

This Carbon Reduction Plan aligns with NHS England’s standards and the UK Government's Procurement Policy Note (PPN) 06/21. We are committed to reducing our carbon emissions across all operations while continuing to provide high-quality, person-centred care services.

1. Commitment to Net Zero

Errand Plus and Personal Services Ltd is committed to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2040, in line with NHS and UK Government targets. Our leadership team recognises climate change as a health emergency and is dedicated to responsible, evidence-based practices that reduce environmental impact while safeguarding vulnerable service users.

2. Baseline Emissions Footprint

We have established 2024 as our baseline year and are actively measuring emissions across the following categories:

  1. – Scope 1: Direct emissions from company vehicles and gas heating

  2. – Scope 2: Indirect emissions from purchased electricity

  3. – Scope 3: Other indirect emissions including waste management, staff commuting, procurement, and use of leased assets

An independent emissions assessment is currently underway, aligned with NHS Greener NHS Toolkit and ISO 14064 standards.

3. Current Emissions (2024 Baseline)

Emissions data for our 2024 baseline will be detailed in our forthcoming Environmental Report. All emissions will be reported using government-approved conversion factors and methodologies, and verified where possible by third parties.

4. Carbon Reduction Targets

To meet our 2040 Net Zero target, we aim to reduce carbon emissions by 50% by 2030. Key milestones include:

  1. – 2025: Complete detailed emissions baseline and publish public-facing carbon report

  2. – 2026–2030: Implement significant interventions including energy transitions, sustainable transport, and waste reduction

  3. – 2030–2040: Move to full renewable energy, digital-first systems, and zero-emission fleet

5. Key Actions and Interventions

To reduce our carbon emissions, we will implement the following initiatives:

  1. -Transition fleet vehicles to hybrid/electric models in line with NHS Greener Plan
  • – Improve insulation and energy efficiency in all supported living properties

  • – Reduce non-essential staff travel and implement virtual support meetings

  • – Introduce carbon-reduction clauses into procurement and supplier contracts

  • – Provide annual carbon literacy training for all staff

  • – Monitor and reduce waste through better recycling and waste segregation

  • – Collaborate with landlords and housing providers to improve building efficiency

6. Governance

Our Environmental Steering Group, chaired by the Managing Director, will oversee this Carbon Reduction Plan. The group will review progress quarterly and update our Senior Leadership Team and NHS commissioning bodies where applicable.

A Sustainability Lead will be appointed to coordinate all activity related to emissions reduction, data collection, staff engagement, and policy updates.

7. Monitoring and Reporting

We will monitor carbon performance through an annual audit of Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions. Progress reports will be made publicly available on our website and shared with local authorities, NHS partners, and commissioners.

All monitoring will follow NHS and DEFRA guidance on emissions reporting and align with PPN 06/21.

8. Staff and Stakeholder Engagement

We believe every member of our organisation has a role to play. We will:

  1. – Deliver training and regular internal communications on sustainability
  2. – Host staff engagement sessions to gather ideas and support cultural change

  3. – Work with service users, families, and external stakeholders to promote joint accountability

  4. – Involve landlords, suppliers, and local authority partners in delivering greener outcomes
